Mandate

The Estates and Works Committee is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and development of the University's physical infrastructure, facilities, and grounds.

Roles

The main roles of the Estates and Works Committee include the following:

  • Developing and reviewing policies and procedures related to the maintenance, repair, and development of the University's physical infrastructure, facilities, and grounds
  • Preparing and implementing a long-term strategic plan for the development of the University's physical infrastructure and facilities
  • Monitoring and evaluating the quality of construction and maintenance work carried out by contractors and other service providers
  • Preparing and managing the University's budget for capital projects and maintenance
  • Coordinating the allocation of space and facilities for academic, research, and administrative purposes
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
Compostion

The Estates and Works Committee comprises of 9 members, including:

  • One member of the University Council (Chairperson)
  • The Director of Estates and Works
  • The University Bursar
  • The University Engineer
  • The Dean of each faculty of the University
  • One representative from the academic staff of each faculty of the University
  • One representative from the non-academic staff of the University
  • One representative from the Busitema University Students' Guild
  • Members of the Committee are appointed by the University Council for a period of two years and are eligible for reappointment for another term.
